DIGITAL CARTOGRAPHY

You don’t need any CAD software for editing.

slide3ISTRAM has its own graphical environment. One of its primary development principles was to offer a powerful graphical environment with typical CAD editing tools, plus functions specifically designed to process the Z coordinate of all entities. Furthermore, it always works in 3D.

When printing drawings, you only need to know the paper size, distribute the sheets, and send them directly to the physical or virtual printing devices (e.g., PDF printing). Then you can dedicate the rest of your time to other, more important processes. You can also customize title blocks or stamps to quickly and easily display titles, subtitles, or page numbers.

Forget about manually renumbering drawings or needing a team of drafters to assist you with drawing delivery. In most of the functions or work areas that generate graphic information, the autonomy with which you want to work has been taken into account, allowing you to deliver plans of exceptional quality.

Unfortunately, we don’t always have perfect starting data. ISTRAM offers a complete set of tools specifically designed to successfully tackle the challenging task of preparing accurate and correct maps.

Our powerful layer and model system allows you to organize information in a way that makes it easy to select the features you want to correct. We also have analysis functions that filter, select, change, move, or rotate elements; some of these functions are specifically designed for processing the Z coordinate.

A set of contour lines with or without elevation can be corrected and decorated with elevation labels or point symbols quickly and easily. Furthermore, by using a specific 3D snap, you can enrich the data by creating new features directly on the ground.

Back

ISTRAM offers a versatile system that allows you to modify the systems on which your maps are based, including ellipsoid, zone, or projection system changes. This eliminates the need to use external conversion tools or worry about data incompatibility.

If features are not in their correct location, you can use the coordinate transformation tool, which includes all the necessary actions to place the information in the correct position: translation, rotation, scaling, or Helmert transformation.

ISTRAM features a powerful system that allows you to import and export data to and from popular CAD applications such as AutoCAD (c) and MicroStation (c). It also utilizes a concordance dictionary that ensures data is displayed using the same layer and entity types, and within those layers, the codes that associate the types; a contour line in the source will be the same contour line in the destination.

You can use control data or topographic surveys taken in the field with total stations or GPS devices. These are processed and translated by numerous conversion programs. If, for any reason, the format is not supported, our development department will quickly program the necessary application.

At both the vector and raster levels, ISTRAM features an internal data format that allows for the smooth handling of large amounts of information without freezing, hourglass delays, or flickering. Dynamic zoom and pan functions, 3D visualization, and geometric analysis are performed exceptionally quickly.

ISTRAM includes tools that allow for the segmentation of information and its storage in separate files, which can then be loaded by a file and area manager that optimizes resources and loads information only when needed. At an even more advanced level, it offers a cartographic database manager capable of handling information at multiple levels. Several public organizations have implemented this tool in their cartographic data systems.

With ISTRAM, you can generate digital terrain models using topographic surveys or vector data from various sources. The application is specifically programmed to accurately process point clouds and breaklines that typically define a surface. Triangulated Terrain Model (TIN) generation is extremely fast, and its processing for generating contour lines is highly efficient.

The program’s power allows you to work with large files covering several square kilometers without problems, even considering data islands and using the external boundaries you define to delimit the 2D area to be triangulated.

The generated models can be used in other parts of ISTRAM. Therefore, you can save them in a special format so that other program functions can quickly analyze and process them, generating various types of data: surface intersections, slope and hypsometry maps, cut and fill volumes, viewsheds, floodplains, reservoir construction, etc.

Whether it’s a tachymetric survey or cross-sectional profile survey, ISTRAM offers tools for communicating with multiple surveying stations and GPS devices. Files translated into ISTRAM’s internal formats can be immediately edited for viewing and correction, or used to monitor the construction progress of your project.

Obtain surface and volumetric measurements of cut and fill instantly, generating plans and reports that allow you to easily defend your data. Unlike other applications, ISTRAM’s profile editor has over 30 utilities that address every possible problem: needing to clip one surface to another, find the intersection of two lines, and so on.

The “electronic field book” function allows you to perform the most common surveying operations: network adjustments, transformations, etc., and also accommodates changes in georeferencing and projection systems at any time. It is common practice in the case of tachymetric surveys to code certain points or lines of the terrain; this singularity is fully contemplated by ISTRAM, freeing the surveyor from this tedious task.

SURFACE MODELING

During the construction process, ISTRAM is a valuable work tool that facilitates geometric control tasks and provides the necessary information for invoicing or cost evaluation.

LINEAR WORK

You’ve probably already heard of us; our clients’ satisfaction is our best advertising. Our application allows you to control all the design and construction processes for any type of civil engineering project.

Our program addresses each and every need of the designer. ISTRAM is not simply a commercial CAD application with a few tools added. We have 27 years of experience participating in the design and construction of major civil engineering infrastructure projects in Spain and abroad.

All the elements you will manage in the project are taken into account: the initial mapping, the design of the axes in plan, their elevation and cross-section, the measurements, drawings and schedules you have to deliver to your client, and all the files involved in the construction process. Unlike other programs, ISTRAM is not a generic CAD application with a few functions added on.

With ISTRAM, you can define anything from a simple rural road to the most complex highway cross-section. The straightforward workflow is always the same and always visible; you don’t have to navigate through complicated menus and submenus to add or verify that certain data has been entered.

The dialog boxes integrate buttons, text boxes, and tabs that allow you to define each part of the plan, elevation, and cross-section, accessing them naturally. It’s here that you can process everything from the simplest to the most complex design.

ISTRAM’s core philosophy is to offer freedom and flexibility to the user, not forcing them to define every element before proceeding.

In numerous sections of the application, you can define cross-section elements parametrically or vectorially. The latter allows you to define any type of cross-section: ditches, slopes, medians, sidewalks, etc., can have any shape and appearance.

When the unique nature of a project requires designing elements that change shape or dimensions depending on the terrain’s elevation, unlike other programs, ISTRAM offers functions that allow you to automatically apply one type of cross-section or another. A simple example is a file of wall dimensions that the program automatically selects from a list you provide.

ISTRAM allows you to flexibly define the different parts of the cross-section (pavement layer, selected soil, over-excavations, ditch finishing, and subgrade), offering the user data inputs to define where and how each surface is constructed, since not all projects are the same.

ISTRAM offers functionalities that allow you to define connection relationships between axes. This task is dreaded by layout engineers, as experience shows that with other programs, enormous amounts of time are spent defining, adjusting, calculating, and verifying.

Process automation is present in many parts of the application, responding to the needs expressed by numerous clients. ISTRAM views the project holistically, rather than individually, axis by axis, thus allowing a complete connection to be generated in just a few minutes.

Project organization can be taken to the extreme, allowing you to define, for each axis, the calculation method, the group to which it belongs, and how it will be measured and drawn. This flexible structure allows users to define various scopes and thus test different construction solutions.

When delivering results, more work hours than anticipated are often required because some elements need to be finalized using other CAD applications. With ISTRAM, graphic output can be truly automated, drastically reducing the time and resources typically used for these tasks.

The system covers all the usual areas present in a civil engineering project, and unlike other applications, you can fully customize the type of drawing to be generated. Forget about having to present subpar results or needing a drafting team to finalize the drawings.

You can share results with other work teams, delivering the paginated information in CAD formats so it can be immediately integrated into the overall project plan. The virtual printing devices allow you to choose the language (CAD, PDF, SVG) in which the digital information will be generated.

The linear, surface, and volumetric measurements you can generate with ISTRAM are prepared by a system that analyzes and processes the designed sections to deliver consistent results regardless of the layers or surfaces created. You don’t need a different measurement style for each axis, although you can define and apply your own if desired.

Measurement tables and drawing style files are continuously updated with new features programmed by the development department, allowing you to continue working without having to change, migrate, or transform data between versions.

Data lists and files are generated simultaneously with geometry calculations, ensuring they always reflect and incorporate the latest changes. Forget about having to check file timings.

At the design or review stage, the need arises to apply or verify the geometric standards set out in the road alignment regulations. ISTRAM takes this functionality into account and offers the possibility of using design tables, which always provide the most appropriate and accurate value needed at any given time.

Modern road safety audits can benefit from the reports and plans prepared with ISTRAM that list the various irregularities in a road alignment, reporting radii and clothoids outside the recommended or required range, or incorrectly defined superelevation.

Some ISTRAM tools and add-ons allow you to generate speed diagrams, visibility studies, or vehicle trajectory plans, thus providing you with value-added tools that enhance the quality of your work and validate your design for the client.

ISTRAM has a flexible structure that allows you to store the definition of any type of linear infrastructure project, regardless of its function: roads, highways, railways, pipelines, canals, etc. ISTRAM takes into account the unique characteristics of each project and organizes them so they can be hosted within the same workflow, without modifying the environment.

Data analysis and results generation are the same for all project types, allowing the use of customizable templates or drawing modes, considering the specific characteristics of each element: sleepers and rails in railways, pipes in sanitation and distribution systems, pavement layers in roads and highways, etc.

Your team becomes more efficient by being able to handle different types of work. Companies that use ISTRAM are multidisciplinary, tackle any type of project, and quickly recover their investment in the application. Furthermore, the continuous implementation of improvements and new features guarantees the success of your business.

The unique construction challenges of projects involving work on an existing road or railway that doubles its capacity have always been approached with caution, given the large number of geometric possibilities that need to be addressed.

With most programs, this is impossible; however, ISTRAM has solved this problem by offering dialog boxes where the user can easily define the actions to be performed: milling, demolition, shoulder repair, complete excavation, etc. The program then executes these instructions immediately, allowing the user to review the work performed at each kilometer point and correct it if it is not as expected.

ISTRAM also offers the possibility of using the data that defines the current alignment to optimally define the new alignment, making the most of the existing pavement and utilizing the existing superelevation whenever possible, thus minimizing the cost of the project.

The design of any type of construction with ISTRAM includes both tunnel and cut-and-cover sections, offering simple dialog boxes to define, parametrically or vectorially, all the surfaces that make up the vault and invert, or the excavation and backfill in the case of a cut-and-cover tunnel.

Each part of the tunnel allows for the definition of excavation and multiple lining levels. Each defined element is treated in the same way as a standard road; the system is 100% compatible, not a separate application. Geometry and measurement reports are generated in the same way as when defining a simple road.

Naturally, tunnel design for suburban rail is one of the areas that benefits most from ISTRAM. Many projects in Spain and abroad are optimally designed, also benefiting from the monitoring and control module, which analyzes and resolves discrepancies between the design and the actual construction.

The design phase is crucial, but when it comes down to it, the most important aspect may be generating lists and reports that allow you to present a budget to the client. ISTRAM offers the necessary tools to ensure that this task is not merely a functional requirement but an essential part of the program.

Lists of earthworks, the different layers of the pavement structure, the surfaces of slopes to be revegetated, linear meters of ditch, kilograms of steel and concrete, etc., are all taken into account by a system that defines work units and unit prices, conveniently displayed in fully customizable reports.

The program’s versatility allows for any type of hierarchical grouping that may be necessary: according to the axes or groups of axes of your project, by construction element, by phase or date, by contractor, etc. The generated reports allow you to effectively manage the construction process.

As an ISTRAM user, you have no problem tackling other types of projects unrelated to roads or highways. The design environment and working philosophy remain the same, providing the necessary tools to design a railway project.

The application handles the definition of track components connecting the horizontal alignments and the definition of the track surface, selected soil, ballast, sleepers, and rails. It generates project cross-section files using the same data structure, thus ensuring that all ISTRAM tools can be used regardless of the project type.

Naturally, the application also addresses geometric singularities related to horizontal alignment, vertical alignment, and superelevation, offering design tables that allow adaptation to the track geometry defined by the railway authority.

ISTRAM users don’t need to switch applications to design pipeline layout projects; they simply press a key to select the project type associated with each axis. This way, all design needs are met, allowing for the definition of any type of trench, pipe, and lining.

Naturally, the application includes the necessary hydraulic calculations to enable engineers to correctly size pipeline sections or use prefabricated elements and typical fittings placed at critical points along the route.

The measurements and reports generated represent a competitive advantage over other overly specialized applications or those focused solely on hydraulic calculations. Ultimately, you are required to present a construction project similar to those needed for highways or railways.

The geometric and structural connections of streets in a housing development are quickly and easily resolved by ISTRAM, which immediately provides the solution based on the specified radius. In just a few seconds, you can view the results, delete them, try a different radius, and so on.

Measurements and geometry lists are generated instantly and become part of your project report; there’s no need to manually add any files. The project’s comprehensive calculation system and the ability to organize axes into groups are ideal for the typical zoning used in this type of project.

Modifications to the terrain surface or the plan and elevation geometry of intersecting axes can be recalculated immediately, as ISTRAM automatically determines and defines the necessary curve. You then use all the automatically generated definition lists, which always reflect the data from the latest definition.

This problem doesn’t occur with ISTRAM. From the outset, you can be certain that the lists reflecting the latest modifications are always displayed, preventing last-minute surprises when delivering the project to your client.

This philosophy, however, is flexible. If you wish, you can generate a list of geometries or measurements at any time to evaluate an alternative. As with any program, you can always choose where to save the data, and ISTRAM offers an innovative system that allows you to conveniently store versions of your project.

Our project manager is based on a system that allows you to associate geometric definitions for each axis, which are stored in separate files. This allows you to check, sometimes with just a glance, the information being used at any given time.

Sometimes the geology of the terrain where your project is to be designed defines geotechnical horizons that must be considered during construction. ISTRAM allows you to define various surfaces with which the program interacts geometrically.

Our application takes into account that cut slopes and selected materials may differ depending on the type of terrain, and that different geometries may need to be defined at soil-rock contacts.

Volumetric measurements particularly benefit from this functionality; the different material strata are measured accurately, allowing your budget to best reflect the construction reality.

During the construction process, ISTRAM is a valuable tool that facilitates geometric control and provides the necessary information for invoicing or evaluating the cost of completed work.

Whether for standard surfaces such as earthworks or tunnel excavation, ISTRAM offers tools that allow you to identify discrepancies between the planned and constructed work and take appropriate action.

Monthly measurements are managed by the program, which also accommodates elements with different units or that may not be expressed by a precise geometry. In other words, our program allows your project to be measured using topographic methods, by production volume, in square, cubic, or linear meters, in tons, or as a fixed amount.
