Ongoing developments for ISTRAM
“ONLyBIM Development of a module for the design and execution of Non-Linear Works under BIM methodology.”
The technological opportunity presented by this project lies in the development of an agile and versatile tool for the design and construction of embankments, reservoirs, water treatment plants, and all types of non-linear structures. This tool will define a more efficient and streamlined methodology, as well as allow for the creation and analysis of variations to reduce the construction process, associated costs, and potential environmental impacts. Furthermore, the project’s scope will enable the integration of linear works modules with embankments, as well as with 3D models and, ultimately, with the Presto and TCQ budgeting software. This integration will represent a significant advancement for the companies in this consortium and the future exploitation of the ONLyBIM results.
The objective of the ONLyBIM project is the development of a civil engineering design tool for non-linear structures that will expedite the design process for its potential users (engineering firms, construction companies, and public administrations) and ensure integration with existing BIM tools.
PROJECT FUNDED BY:
BIM DEVELOPMENT
BIM is a term on everyone’s lips these days, used by architects and many engineers, as a method for representing architectural and civil engineering projects so that designs can be shared universally. All project data is placed in a central repository, and all project collaborators access the community’s designs there and contribute their own work. Data consistency aims to minimize errors and eliminate redundancies. The goal is to cover everything from the initial design to construction, commissioning, maintenance, and even final demolition.
IFC file formats facilitate interoperability between different programs, allowing information to be shared and preventing data loss when transferring between them. See http://www.buildingsmart-tech.org/ for interesting information about the world of IFC and BIM.
The first step in BIM work is the geometric modeling of the structure to be built. In a linear infrastructure project, the 3D design of the road, railway, etc., is key. Istram has always modeled all projects in 3D.
We are working intensively on Istram to incorporate BIM model development. Currently, we already have BIM model generators and exporters that write all the geometry of our projects in IFC2x3 and IFC4 formats. The next objective is to incorporate customizable attributes directly by our users.
ADAPTATION OF ROAD AND RAILWAY DESIGN TO THE REGULATIONS OF OTHER COUNTRIES
Wherever a project is undertaken using ISTRAM, local regulations must be respected. We are continuously analyzing regulations and incorporating parameter tables and calculation methods that assist designers in complying with the layout standards of various countries. In recent years, our users have completed projects throughout the Americas, the Middle East, Africa, Australia, and beyond. We receive numerous requests and are constantly working on them.
DEVELOPMENT POLICY
Our commitment to the client and the very reason for our company’s existence is to create tools that serve the entire civil engineering project, taking into account all its aspects and phases. Therefore, we continuously examine the need to develop new functionalities, some of which are proposed by our clients.
ISTRAM’s update and maintenance contracts include the possibility of benefiting from 100% of the programmed functionalities at no additional cost. Our clients’ suggestions are carefully examined and analyzed, and programmed within a few days. If they are more substantial, they are considered full-fledged developments and consequently allocated more resources.
These are some of the areas we are currently working on and will soon offer to the user community. Please contact us if you would like more information.
HOW CAN YOU REQUEST A NEW AND SPECIFIC DEVELOPMENT FROM US?
ISTRAM can collaborate with its clients on the development of various types of tools. Depending on the scope of the tools and strategic considerations, technical and financial agreements are established. This provides clients with a complete development team with whom they can consider technical outsourcing.
